NW Portland Condo

Location: West Hills Condo

Redesigning a dated primary bathroom has built in challenges as it is but when you redesign and remodel a primary bathroom in a condo during a global pandemic, well, things get tricky. Lucky for us we not only work with the best craftspeople and builders in Portland we also score some of the best clients. Our clients wanted a space that was fresh and modern with great storage. The brief also included the desire for a bigger shower and the reuse of an existing jetted tub. Some of the best design comes out of constrained spaces and we love a good challenge. Additionally, they love pattern and texture and were excited to see what their design team would come up with for them.

The existing tub was re-positioned in such a way that we kept the walk way as wide as possible. It created an opportunity to show an interesting juxtaposition of the curve of the tub and the tile of the skirt intersecting the straight line of the bench (also the access to the plumbing and some storage) and the warmth of the Walnut. Mind you, all of this design work was brought to life with the build team collaborating to make it all come together as beautifully as it did. The plumber, tile setter, cabinet maker, stone fabricator and builder all with thoughtful inclusion of their design team made everything fit, flow and function. Unless you were there to see it happen yourself, you would never know how hard this all was. Nor would you know that it all went down during the Covid 19 pandemic so our teams were dealing with illnesses, protocols, condo HOA’s and ships getting stuck in the Suez Canal. And yet, look at it. It’s a restful, interesting, fresh space packed with storage. When you have amazing clients and talented professionals you can do just about anything.

BEFORE

“When we decided to remodel our primary bathroom, we asked who would be the best person to help design it. The answer was Arlene Lord. We contacted Arlene and met with her and her colleague Kimberly. They wanted to know more about us and what we like. They came to our condo to see the bathroom and how we have decorated the condo.

They then put together ideas for us to see and think about. Brilliant ideas. They had samples of everything from tile to lights to cabinetry. At the next meeting, they showed us, in 3D, what the bathroom would look like. We loved it.

Sean Harding, of Harding Construction, selected the companies to do the general contracting, demolition, painting, tiling, and cabinets. We especially appreciated the excellent work done by Sean, who managed to juggle all the subs and keep the remodel on track and by Dirk Sullivan at Hawthorne Tile, whose tile work is nothing less than astounding.

In short, we met with Arlene, she designed the bathroom, and saw it through to completion. We went on vacation and came home to the nicest bathroom we have ever had. All without ever having to spend hours looks at tile, light fixtures, and faucets.”
