Thriving at 55: Reflecting on Life's Sweet Journey

The little girl in this photo is me. I was probably 8 or 9 years old. I’m pretty sure I was thinking mostly of the Dilly Bar from Dairy Queen that was most certainly in my future after the T-Ball game that day.

Even though I had a chaotic childhood I still had those sweet, simple thoughts.

My life now is busy and challenging, due to owning a business, but the chaos is gone. My life at home is sweet and gentle. My best friend in the world is my husband and we have an adorable golden retriever who is the center of our universe. It’s always good to come home. They are my rocks.

Growing up, my mom and my sisters were my rocks. No matter how dark, weird or uncertain things were they were always there and still are to this day. So, as I look forward to my 55th trip around the sun I am so thankful for my rocks at home, my family, the Lord Design family, my small but tight and precious group of friends, my amazing work colleagues and clients that I have the honor to work with. Life is so damn good and getting better everyday!

I’m ready to thrive at 55. It’s really that simple and definitely that sweet! Thanks for being along for the ride!

Speaking of sweet, one of the ways we like to help out the design community is by offering internships from time to time. Not every opportunity is perfect, and not every intern is a perfect fit, but we're excited to have decided to take a chance on expanding the Lord Design family for the next couple of months and that Mackenzie Mickles chose us too! Here’s a little introduction:

Hello everybody my name is Mackenzie and I am currently studying interior design at PCC, Sylvania. In my down time you can find me sitting outside at a park sunbathing with my dog, fiddling with my bass guitar, or enjoying a relaxing night.

'Til next time,

– Arlene
