West Linn She Shack Playhouse

Location: West Linn, Oregon

Every piece was very carefully curated into this tiny space.  We created sleeping spaces for all of the grandkids.  Because nothing is standard in this playhouse, we crafted custom mattresses that were covered in basic linen that the client already had. We found the dresser at Stars Antiques, a local antique mall in Sellwood, Oregon.  The head and footboards were found at a now-gone antique shop and word has it they originally came from an asylum.  We used both headboards on one bed because we had the height to do so and the footboards on the other bed because that is what the space allowed.  Almost all of the bedding was from Filling Spaces which is owned by a team of sisters, one based here in Portland and the other in India. The french doors were salvaged from Rejuvenation from back in the day when they had an amazing salvage yard.  They are actually sidelights that were reconfigured as French doors.  The doorknobs were something the client had laying around.  This client likes to shop and has the most incredible collection of things for us to cull through and find magical whimsy.  The rug, in fact, was one she already had and was the jumping point for our color inspiration.  The walls were whitewashed by Lorie Wolff of One Horse Studios.

The remodeling was done by BC Custom Homes, Lorie Wolff, Filling Spaces, and my clients, especially Peggy, whose love of fun, color, and whimsy is just an absolute blast to collaborate with.

What stands out about Arlene is the way she includes others in her projects - primarily the client, but also the trades. She works hand in hand with everyone involved which leads to her ability to meet deadlines while ensuring the quality of the project remains intact.
